Let’s Recap What Is Legal For Window Tint In Texas In 2019
2019 Texas tint laws have by and large remained the same. Still it is important to know those laws. To help explain those laws we went directly to the Texas Department of Public Safety website.
Below you will find a detailed explanation of Texas tint laws for 2019.
Front Doors
- Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.
- Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a luminous reflectance value of 25% or less. In other words: When you have your car inspected in order for it to pass inspection the front doors must allow 25% of visible light to pass through the windows and cannot reflect more than 25% of the light.
Inspection stations use a tint meter to check if your tint is legal. If it’s not you will fail inspection, so remember, make sure your tint allows at least 25% light transmission and less than 25% reflectance.
Rear Doors and Rear Window
Now here is the really great news. In Texas a vehicle’s rear doors and rear window are completely exempt from regulations. Here is the information from the DPS website:
Rear Side Windows-
“These windows are completely exempted from regulation under the Texas Transportation Code.”
Rear Window-
“If a motor vehicle is equipped with an outside mirror on each side of the vehicle that reflects to the vehicle operator a view of the roadway for a distance of at least 200 feet from the rear of the vehicle then there are no restrictions regarding the sunscreening devices applied to the rear window.”
